2014年7月29日，湖南省民协【大美乡愁】寻找湖南最美“古村镇，老手艺”采编组，湖南省文联副主席，省民协主席曾应明在涟源市宣传部，文物局，荷塘镇领导陪同下来到涟源市荷塘镇古楼村，湘军第一猛将『李续宾』故居—『锡三堂』。
名将故里—荷塘镇，位于娄底涟源境内的荷塘镇、杨家滩。它是湘军的发祥地之一，是名将故里群＂。我们頂着38度的热浪，看到了这个昔日辉煌无比、今日虽己列入省文保之列，这里一个、又一个将军古宅、书院、绣楼，大院庭堂。都是破败不堪、損坏严重。这里自然环境优美，空气清新。不仅青山拥翠，中午时分、鸡群闭目养神、鸭儿溪中休闲；更有一条依山环绕的孙水河，平添荷塘镇与杨家滩的灵气。咸丰帝御赐李续宾兄弟的古宅／锡三堂，就修建于这里的古楼村。
涟源市荷塘镇古楼村的锡三堂，是清代鼎鼎有名的湘军大将李续宾、李续宜兄弟的故居，屋名意喻皇帝对李家的三次封赏。
李续宾是湘军右营的统帅，他臂力过人，文武双全，能征善战，一生转战南北，功勋卓著，“七年之间，先后克复四十余城，大小六百余战”，望冠绝诸军。咸丰八年升为巡抚，同年战死于安徽三河镇。清廷追封其为总督，世袭男爵，赐其父母一品封典。锡三堂规模宏大，气势不凡，后院的三重水井，口源为甘甜清澈的山泉水，终年不息，每口约7米*3米，口口相连，分别为饮用水、洗菜、洗衣，全都用巨块青条石砌成，在省内十分罕见，堪称一绝。屋堂占地100多亩，设计有科学的下水管道，虽然年久失修，至今没一个天井堵塞，
