麻阳郭公坪乡溪口村湾里，是2013年国家住建部、文化部、财政部公布第二批中国传统村落。
记者10月下旬来这里寻访时，虽然看到了吊脚楼、青石板巷，可比起那些民族风情浓烈的湘西苗寨侗乡来说，并没有特别之处。
湾里之所以进入国家视野，最主要因素是洞，更准确地说是洞中之水。
1、山里溶洞多
这里是云贵高原边缘——最后一级台阶。喀斯特地貌让这里的溶洞星罗棋布，大小不计其数。仅溪口村就有观音洞、腰子洞、密龙洞。附近的野鸡坪村有黑洞，杜庄村有白羊洞、燕子洞，报木山村有水帘洞等。
“导游”——郭公坪乡副乡长邓玲告诉记者，在他们考察过的洞中，钟乳石林立，形状千奇百怪，极具开发价值。她还说，传说吴三桂在衡阳死后，其尸体被部下运到了麻阳，安葬于郭公坪的某个山洞之中。
2、乡里寿星多
记者在郭公坪乡政府前下车，只见一个老太太在做针线活。当时也没注意，可后来一聊起长寿话题，邓玲说，那老人就是麻阳著名的寿星曾满珍。曾家现在五代同堂，子女孙辈孝顺。老人耳聪目明，一直都是自己煮饭、洗衣服，有时还走10里路去赶集。她平时生活很简单，吃的都是粗茶淡饭，喝的是井中之水。
在湾里一个坪里，一位老人扛着锄头出门了。邓玲告诉记者，这老人已经91岁了。
在这一带，“八十能种田”、“九十还爬山”、“百岁老太穿针线”，是寿星们生活的写照。邓玲介绍，郭公坪乡现有17532人，80至90岁的老人有463人，90至95岁的老人有111人，95至100岁的高龄老人有20人，100岁以上的老人有3人，百岁老人达到了十万分之十七，是长寿县里的“长寿之乡”。
3、水中“微量”多
寿星多是因为水好。
最有名的是“神仙水”。那水出在湾里苗寨对面山坡半山腰的观音洞内。
记者爬上观音洞，只见一道近二百级的石梯直入洞底。可停电让我们无法入内。好在乡文化站长是当年的考察者和开发者，据他说，洞内深处有一股山泉自洞顶垂直而降，长年累月，在洞底形成了一个大水池，池内就是传说中的“神仙水”。
不知何时，洞中之水能治病的消息传开，前来取水者如过江之鲫。“神仙水”被送到中科院检验，得出的结论是：水中富含人体必需的钾、钙、钠、镁、磷等元素，长期饮用可以预防骨质疏松、心血管疾病、高血压等；而最有特点的是含硒较高，人体摄入适量的硒，能刺激免疫球蛋白及抗体产生，增强机体的抵抗能力，能防癌、抗癌，预防和治疗心血管疾病。水中有害元素的含量远远低于国家饮水标准。
4、“养生来客”多
记者到洞下一个苗家弄水喝。主人告诉我，这里没有喝开水的习惯，平日只喝“神仙水”。
见记者疑惑，一位50来岁操长沙口音的女性说：“只管放心喝，绝对有好处。”她是一位养生客，一年做三四个月生意，半年在这里养生，还有两个月处理家务。她是一种多病者，这里让她逐渐恢复了健康。
据邓玲说，湾里苗胞哪一家都有养生客，一年到这里住上几个月的，总有几百千把人。她指着几栋新起的绿瓦盖顶的楼房说，开发商见有生意可做，就建起了这楼租给养生客住。不过，县里乡里对打造养生基地有更大规划。
5、计划投资多
邓玲所说的“更大规划”就是指县乡准备与一家香港公司合作，投资40亿元人民币，打造世界一流的养生基地。
香港公司在麻阳设“湘西部落”子公司，“部落”老总叫林龙。他说，“神仙水”含硒丰富不假，其所以能养生的另一重要原因是属于小分子团水。这种水“具有独特的有效水合作用、促进新陈代谢、增强营养吸收等作用”。湾里一带的小分子团水的形成，与这里的地磁场很有关系。
他还说，世界五大长寿之乡，排第一的是广西巴马，而湾里一带的综合条件比那里更得天独厚，完全可以打造出比巴马更好的养生基地。他举例说，湾里一带洞多，经专家考证，一天可采的含硒的小分子团水一千吨，可以满足5万人的养生需要。
