研讨会上，曾应明主席提出开展对具有湖湘文化民俗风情特色的湖南古村镇、古民居、古工艺进行探访的重要意义。特别是对凤凰古城、芙蓉镇、张谷英村、铜官古镇、靖港古镇等古镇保护的历史意义和现实价值。加大探索和发展古村落旅游在新农村建设中实现古村落与经济同步发展的方案。并提出将以政府主导，民协牵头，村民自治的方式探索发展古村落旅游。具有鲜明区域特点和民族特色，有利于传承保护民族文化、促进文化旅游深度融合与发展。建立具有湖南省民间地域特色和民族风情，古村落保护体系让其成为解读湖南本土历史文化的教科书。
